With all the
anti-obesity campaigns espoused by the government and
non-government organizations, one cannot help but simply
raise the question: what is obesity? Physically fit
individuals and those considered obese should raise the
question what is obesity? Ignorance of such physical
condition may lead to disastrous consequences.
In a nutshell, what is obesity?
Obesity basically is excessive fat accumulation that may be
harmful to a person’s health. The World Health Organization
or the WHO defines obesity as a body mass index that is
equal to 30 or more. When a person is obese, he or she is
susceptible to various ailments such as hypertension,
cardiovascular disease, diabetes and certain forms of
cancer. Hence, this is the reason for the existence of the
anti-obesity agenda of governments and other health
conscious organizations. |

Causes
of Obesity
There are different causes of obesity. But to have a
simplified understanding as to why a person becomes
obese, there is a significant imbalance in the calorie
intake and the calories burned by his or her body every
day. This usually happens when an individual’s diet
comprises of high fat and sugary intake yet deficient in
the body’s needed nutrients. Fast food and junk food are
prime examples of what people eat nowadays that makes
them obese. So when asking the question what is obesity?
A fat person indulging in burgers and fries while
drinking soda should come into mind.
How to Reduce Obesity
When someone raises the question what is obesity? A
corollary question should be how to reduce obesity? In
order to reduce obesity, a person should exercise at
least three times a week. In that manner, calories are
burned and metabolism is increased. A person should also
eat the right kind of food. Vegetables and fruits should
replace burgers and fries.
